On Tuesday I went to a seminar in Greenville called "Picture Books for Older Children & Teens". The Northeast Texas Library System brought in Sharon McQueen from the library science faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to share with interested librarians the basics of picture books.
I think I was the only academic librarian there. The rest were school librarians and public librarians. It was a very interesting session--I'm still surprised and happy to find out that speakers such as Sharon are brought so near to our rural community.
Graphic novels have made a big impact lately in public librarians and in schools. Most of our collection focuses on juvenile books--below grade 8. I got some really good ideas from the sesson on things to do to enhance our collection of picture books.
